THE STORY
IVY&GUS was established in 2020, while I was living and working on a cattle station in northern QLD. The brand is founded on the value for timeless, high-quality pieces made from natural materials that will see you through the years and tell a story of many adventures.
IVY&GUS items age beautifully, they soften, crease and mark adding depth to the piece as time goes by.
Through the process of hand stitching each item to order, I aim to create a product with inherent value that cannot be matched by machine and mass production. Each piece has a specific purpose and a unique product number, stamped discreetly. It truly is a one-of-a-kind and I hope you will cherish and love your IVY&GUS for many years – making the most of the resource created for us by the beef industry.
Through the use of natural materials, I also aim to support and draw attention to the passion and dedication that is within Australian Agriculture.
Is something I have wanted to do since I was a little girl. I have always loved creating and designing, especially when it brings happiness to others.
I completed a Bachelor in Product Design in 2022, through which my appreciation for quality design, and the effect it has on society, was refined.
I credit many of the people I have had the privilege of living and working alongside in isolated locations for inspiring me to create a business that is not limited by geographical location.
TO CREATE A DESIGN BRAND
To celebrate the beauty, passion and dedication that is Australian Agriculture. There is something special about living rurally- the work, the people, the landscape and the adventure.
In my experience of cattle production, the welfare of the cattle is paramount. Unethical and neglectful behaviour is unacceptable and is widely condemned by producers. Like so many of the people who work in the industry, I have a genuine appreciation and care for the animals who ultimately provide us with vital food and material.
Though there currently is a large push towards vegan leather for ethical and environmental reasons, I believe the solution is not to abandon the industry completely; however, to continue to support it and push for the innovation and development required to secure more ethical and environmentally sustainable practices.
TO support AGRICULTURE
For some extra cash to fund my newfound horse habit - particularly while I was studying. Though initially a hobby, with such overwhelming support as I finished my degree, IVY&GUS is my full- time gig!
And as a reminder to keep going through challenging times and to work hard, I named the business after two awesome horses that I had the privilege of riding and who I had a lot of fun on, Ivanhoe and Gus. This also serves as a reminder to always make sure that I remember to live life and do the things I am passionate about.
